BASIC PROFILE

Name: Crowley
Age: Unknown (Several hundred)
Canon: Supernatural
Appearance: Crowley as played by Mark Sheppard
Extraction point: Post-10x14

OVERVIEW

Personality:
Crowley is first and foremost a survivor. He doesn't have a second thought about anything if it ensures his own survival. He values his own survival over any amount of other lives or things and after that, he values power and the comfort and safety that it brings. Everything he does is done with self-interest, even when he helps the Winchesters stop the Apocalypse.

He knows that if the world ends and Lucifer wins that Lucifer will kill the demons once he's killed all the humans, something that many other demons are blind to. It's not that they aren't equally self-motivated, but Crowley is shown time and again to be particularly perceptive and clever and he's nearly alone in the realization that if Lucifer hates humans, he would also hate demons, who are nothing but twisted human souls.

As early as his first appearance, we see how smart he is, as he manipulates the Winchesters into thinking they've been looking for him when they've showed up exactly when and where he'd planned for them to find him. Even when he gives them the demon-killing gun that they'd been searching for, he hands it to them without bullets, knowing that they'll rashly kill him with it once it's in their hands. In the same meeting, he notices a rug slightly askew and knows it's not safe to step on because the boys have painted a symbol on it that will trap him.

Even knowing that they would happily kill him, Crowley would rather have the Winchesters try to kill Lucifer with it than do it himself and he manipulates them into coming for it so that they'll do his dirty work. Why risk himself when he can risk them, instead? Even giving them a gun is a risk to him, but it's a much more calculated one, as are all of the risks he takes.

After that plan fails, he refuses to take responsibility for the deaths of Jo and Ellen, telling Dean that he's the one who chose to take them along. Crowley isn't the one who killed them and he feels no remorse or sympathy for their deaths.

He's a master manipulator, both of situations and words. In addition to putting people where he needs them to be to best serve his own needs, words are really his greatest tool. He's a salesman and his word is valuable to sell deals, so he's not a man to lie outright very often. His lies are more lies of omission or false implication. He's far more likely to word the truth in a way that serves him than to tell a lie for the same result. He doesn't view this use of verbal loopholes as lies in the same way he doesn't view a contract loophole as a bad thing to exploit.

His nasty temper is probably his biggest personal fault. He seems at times incapable of even controlling it and it's the one part of him that can undermine him. When working with Castiel, he's quick to scream at him, even when their partnership is tenuous, and he's had many outbursts in front of the Winchesters, as well.

Crowley doesn't view himself negatively. He follows his own set of morals that simply aren't in line with the morals of most humans. He's confident to the point of cockiness and it's clear that he thinks he's very smart and that he knows best.

When he's being healed and he's nearly human, he does begin to show remorse and even begs Sam to tell him how he can begin to redeem himself, but the fact that he's a demon seems to stop him from feeling guilt for his actions and allows him to go to extremes that most humans wouldn't to protect his interests. After he's almost healed, however, he begins to self-medicate with human blood for the emotional effects. He's shown crying to movies and acting incredibly sentimental and it's likely that he fells that guilt again during this time. Even after the blood is out of his system, it's clear that he's still been somewhat changed by it in a long term way, as he gets sentimental and saves his son who he supposedly hates and then later attempts to be Dean's best friend.

It's unlikely that he was a particularly good person as a human or that healing him fully would make him entirely good or selfless, but being a demon certainly has an effect on how he makes decisions and his personality is almost more suited to being a demon than a human.

As more of his previous life has been revealed, we've seen an absent witch mother who abandoned him at eight years old and likely a life of loneliness and hardship. Much of what makes him tick falls into place with this information. Crowley is a product of abandonment and as he's never had anyone to care for him, he's likely never really learned to care about others in turn. His attempt to be Dean's friend is entirely self-serving, even as he lies to himself and Sam about what it really is.

Many characters don't see his values or morals for what they are. He's seen as being without morals or scruples at all in many cases, which is not the case. He's honest to a degree and he can be counted on to come through so long as it suits him. He'll even put in a lot of personal effort when he has no alternative.

He values people only in as much as they can further his own goals, though he's not entirely without personal interest in some people. He takes particular interest in Castiel during their partnership and seems to take it almost personally when Castiel continually prioritizes his friends over their plans. When Castiel eventually turns on him, it enrages Crowley to a level where he still wants to kill the angel several years after the fact, though he does wind up saving Castiel's life later under the guise of him being useful. This takes place after he's been changed by the blood and without an explanation as to what he thinks Castiel will be useful for, it leaves one to wonder if it isn't entirely about use, after all.

He also shows an immense attachment to both Sam and Dean at various times and while their paths often cross due to outside forces or an actual need, there's clearly some intent on Crowley's part to keep an eye on them and step into their lives at times, even when they've both wanted to kill him at various times.

Before becoming the King of Hell, Crowley serves as a Crossroads demon, selling wishes for souls. Even as the King of Hell, he is influenced by the fact that he's always been a salesman. He tries to instate an almost bureaucratic order to Hell, valuing very much that they should have integrity in their deals and wanting to bring order to the chaos within.

Crowley has a great capacity for charisma and playing at being a likable person. Despite his selfishness and his lack of truly human morals, he is smart and he can recognize what's best for him in a given situation. He can see when it's in his best behavior to play nice and, temper allowing, he's certainly capable of it. He's even capable of doing good deeds or generally behaving well for long periods of time, but it's rarely out of a care for the balance of good and evil. He supports the side that's best for him and if the good guys are less likely to get him killed, he's with them.

In the world of Supernatural, Heaven and Hell and a number of other things from various religious mythologies and urban legends are all real, but most people are unaware of this fact. The setting is similar to current-day Earth, but angels and demons exist, along with a myriad of other supernatural creatures including werewolves, wendigos, demigods, vampires and ghosts.

Along with all the angels and demons comes the very real Apocalypse, which involves a releasing of Lucifer from his cage in Hell so that he can fight the archangel Michael--a fight that will wipe out human life. This is where Crowley comes in, popping up in time to help the Winchesters stop the fight from starting. He should be on Lucifer's side, but he sees what most demons don't, which is that Lucifer hates demons as much as humans and if he kills the humans, the demons will be next.

After the Apocalypse is stopped, Crowley steps up as King of Hell. Along with the angel Castiel. they hatch a plan to keep Crowley comfortably in power and help Castiel with a civil war that erupted in Heaven. Together, they look for Purgatory so that they can harness the power of the souls there, but instead Castiel releases a terrible monster, the Leviathan, that would eat the world one human at a time. Once again, Crowley helps the Winchesters to save the world.

Some time later, the Winchesters find out through the prophet Kevin that there are trials they can perform to seal Hell forever and shut the demons inside. Once again, Crowley becomes their foe as he fights to stop them. The Winchesters and Castiel seek out the help of the long-lost angel Metatron, but he betrays Castiel and casts all of the angels out of Heaven. Meanwhile, the Winchesters find a way to heal a demon back to their humanity and attempt to heal Crowley, though they stop just shy of completing it when they realize it will kill Sam.

Abaddon, a Knight of Hell who had been believed dead, returns and plots to steal Crowley's throne in Hell. The Winchesters make it somewhat easy for her to start as they spend several months with Crowley chained up after they stopped short of healing him. It's a short time after Crowley's released that he and Dean work together to find the First Blade, which they need to kill Abaddon. Dean also has to take on the Mark of Cain in order to use it. They do manage to kill Abaddon, however Dean's luck isn't as good when it comes to Metatron and he is killed, though Castiel does get the other angels to help him take down Metatron afterwards.

The Mark of Cain brings Dean back to life, but there is a demonic side to it and the blade calls for blood. He leaves with Crowley and the two spend many weeks "howling at the moon" as Crowley calls it, drinking and going nowhere fast as Dean gives into the mark bit by bit. He proves too much for Crowley to control and Crowley gives him back to his brother to deal with without the blade, which he's hidden.

Once somewhat cured, Dean still struggles with the mark. On one hunt, they come across a powerful Witch names Rowena, who turns out to be the mother who abandoned Crowley as a child. They neglect to kill her, but Crowley's men capture her and she spends some time manipulating him once she sees his vast power. Meanwhile Cain, struggling with his own curse, begins to kill his descendants one-by-one and Dean knows that he's the only one with the power to stop him, so he has to take the Blade again and use it to kill Cain. He lies to Crowley to get the blade and then gives it to Castiel to hide once the job is finished. Crowley goes home with his tail between his legs to find his mother walking out on him.

Real World: Crowley has only recently been extracted. He will still be dealing with the personal crisis that comes with discovering that you've done terrible things under the guise of demonic influence that wasn't really there. There will also be the shock of falling from the throne of Hell to what he sees as small and bare living quarters among thousands of other lost souls.

At the start of the game, he would be just finishing his physical therapy and still in crisis about what useful skills he has to offer when so much has been stripped away.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Anomalies: Crowley is both a demon and skilled in the area of witchcraft as seen in his world. As he exists, he is without human form and the form he inhabits is a human body that he has possessed. He can move from body to body without permission of the owner. He is also shown to have telekinesis, pyrokinesis, strength and endurance well beyond that of a normal human, supernatural senses that can see and detect things that humans cannot and an ability to perform great feats in exchange for someone selling their soul and making a deal with him. (I don't see these deals coming into play in this game) Witchcraft allows him to perform a variety of magic, from eavesdropping to killing, but the hex bags needed to perform it require specific and often rare ingredients. (Examples of hex bag use can be found here.)

Skillset: Crowley is shown to be comfortable with a gun and an excellent shot. In his life as a human before he was a demon, he was a tailor and he can presumably sew and pattern clothing among other tailoring skills. His physical fighting abilities seem to rest more on his demon strength than any exceptional ability and as a human, he can probably hold his own in a bar brawl, but not in a fight against a truly trained fighter.

SAMPLES

When he finally sees the surface, it's as if the air's been pulled from his lungs. He feels the pain right down to his gut, because even as a bloody demon, he'd fought so hard to save the world over and over again. It had been useless, though, hadn't it? The world is already dead.

Not for the first time, he thinks he must have made a mistake and taken the wrong pill, but he can't imagine choosing to go back to living a lie, even if he wouldn't have known. He hates the idea of working so hard for things that just don't matter.

His thoughts wander to the fine scotch that he misses so very much. He would down an entire bottle if he could. Hell, he would drown in it until he felt like a king again if he could.

Shaking his head, he clears his thoughts. There's no room to waste his now-mortal life on all of this self-doubt. This is his life now and he's not sure what he can offer this world yet, but when he figures it out, he's going to sell it like it's going out of style. Crowley rose from the gutter to the throne before and he'll do it again.
